Australia

Duane Norris was a life-long student and observer of Nature and, for the past 16 years, a passionate Water Advocate, activist, and supporter of Natural Sequence Farming (NSF). From 2006 to 2012, he served as the Executive Officer for Natural Sequence Farming, during which he co-organized and published the Art and Science of NSF 3-day Conference at Bungendore, NSW.

Duane was a founding member and past President of the Natural Sequence Association and the Convenor of the Sydney University one-day event, “Water ~ A New Paradigm” in 2010. He co-authored the influential paper “Re-coupling the Water and Carbon Cycles, using Natural Sequence Farming” in the International Journal of Water.

As the original co-founder of Tarwyn Park Training (2012–2020), Duane was instrumental in establishing the training programs at Tarwyn Park, where he also served as a trainer. His work in developing and delivering these programs left an enduring impact on the next generation of practitioners.

An award-winning landscape designer, complex open system scientist, botanist, entomologist, rainforest ecologist, and gardener, Duane combined his diverse expertise with a deep commitment to sustainability. His academic and professional journey included:

  • Former Executive Officer at Natural Sequence Farming (2006–2012).

  • Co-Founder and Trainer at Tarwyn Park Training (2012–2020).

  • PhD Study: Ecology of Plant Communities, Davies Creek, NQ.

  • Master’s in Sustainability Management, University of Sydney.

  • Certificate in Landscape Design and Construction, Merrist Wood Agricultural College.
